Darjeeling suffers Rs 600 cr loss in natural disasters

Siliguri (WB) (PTI) Darjeeling has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 600 crore due to cyclone Aila and the two recent landslides, West Bengal Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said here today.

Sen, who was on a visit to the affected areas of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong for the last two days, told reporters that Aila alone had caused an infrastructural loss of Rs 450 crore, while the loss following two landslides in the hills this month was not less than Rs 150 crore.

Describing the rehabilitation work as satisfactory, he said the state government has already allotted a fund of Rs 55 crore for some relief and repairing measures for Aila.
